Carnegie Library director stepping down
Tuesday, September 28, 2004

Herb Elish, director of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, has announced his intention to leave the post and move to New York to be with his family.

In a letter to the library's board yesterday, Elish said he expected to remain in Pittsburgh for several more months and would help find his successor.

During his six years in the job, Elish reorganized and remodeled the main branch in Oakland with an eye to competing with bookstore chains. He also began a series of improvements at some of he neighorhood branches.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
