Warhol Bridge bike lane installation completed

Temporary bike lanes have been installed on the Andy Warhol Bridge, the Allegheny County Public Works department announced today.

County Executive Rich Fitzgerald announced Wednesday that the bike lanes would be installed on the bridge, which connects Downtown from Seventh Street to the North Side, starting after rush hour this morning.

The work went quickly, and by this afternoon the county announced it was complete and the bike lanes were open.

The lanes are in place in honor of next week’s Pro Walk/Pro Bike/Pro Place Conference, which is taking place from Sept. 8 through Sept. 11 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

The bike lanes, one in each direction, will remain through Sept. 13, the county said in a news release.

The county plans to install permanent bike lanes on the Roberto Clemente Bridge, which crosses the Allegheny River at Sixth Street, and on the South 10th Street Bridge, which crosses the Monongahela, but work on those projects has not yet begun.
