Frick names interim head

Danforth P. Fales has been appointed interim executive director of the Frick Art & Historical Center while a national search is conducted to find a replacement for founding director DeCourcy McIntosh, who left Friday to conduct art-historic research.
Frick board of directors president Thomas J. Hilliard Jr., who announced the appointment, praised Fales' experience with cultural organizations and his "great leadership skills." Fales has been a member of the Frick board since 1997.
Fales, who was reared in New York City, was educated at Williams College and Columbia University, where he completed a master's degree in drama and film. He has been a cinema verite filmmaker, a correspondent and film producer for Life magazine, a National Geographic Society vice president for educational media and electronic communications and manager of the National Geographic Society Foundation. He also worked in television, first at WNET in New York and then at WQED, where he was vice president for national programming.
Fales is on the boards of the Pittsburgh Symphony; the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania; the Royal Oak Foundation, a New York-based affiliate of the National Trust of England, and the Peabody Awards for Excellence in Television and Radio.
He and his wife, Nancy, have three children and live in Fox Chapel.
