School officials on Friday canceled classes for students at Hempfield Area High School after receiving a threat.
Students who were on their way to the Westmoreland County school or who may have just arrived at the school were bused back home, officials said.
The school district’s three middle schools and five elementary schools were on a two-hour delay.
District administrators did not release details about the threat.
Last month, officials closed Wendover Middle School for a day after being notified of a threat made to that school. A 13-year-old male student was arrested for threatening to carry out a mass shooting at the school and threatening to harm a female student.
Hempfield Area School District includes students from Hempfield and the boroughs of Adamsburg, Hunker, Manor, New Stanton and Youngwood.
