HARRISBURG -- It's hard to think of too many honors that Major League Baseball Hall of Fame outfielder Stan Musial hasn't gotten already, but the state Legislature is preparing to name a bridge after him.
Senate Bill 1115, introduced by Sen. Barry Stout, D-Washington, will rename the Donora-Monessen Bridge over the Monongahela River after the famous St. Louis Cardinal player, who comes from Donora.
The bill is set for a vote Wednesday in the Senate Transportation Committee, after which it will need final approval from the full Senate and then the full House.
"Stan Musial has been a good ambassador for the Mon Valley," said Rep. Ted Harhai, D-Monessen. "It's great that we're honoring a native son of Donora and the valley."
The span, which carries state Route 1077 over the river, will be known as the Stan Musial Bridge.
