Gusty winds to blame for reports of area power outages

Heavy winds brought down trees and wires this afternoon in several communities throughout the region.

About 600 Duquesne Light customers — mostly in the North Hills and Beaver County — were without power due to the weather as of 10 p.m., the company said. 

More than 350 West Penn Power customers in Allegheny County were also without power this evening.

The National Weather Service recorded 48 mph wind gusts at the Pittsburgh International Airport at 2:48 p.m. and 45 mph mind gusts at the Allegheny County Airport at 1:16 p.m., according to its website.

The National Weather Service’s wind advisory expired at 10 p.m.
