At least one person was injured Wednesday when a vehicle crashed into the Subway restaurant in Shaler.

The incident was reported shortly after 11:30 a.m. at the Subway in the Mount Royal Shopping Center in the 1700 block of Mount Royal Boulevard, according to Shaler police and Allegheny County emergency officials.

One person who was inside the restaurant at the time suffered minor injuries when struck by debris from the crash, police said. That person was transported to a Pittsburgh hospital.

The operator and passenger in the vehicle were not injured.

Charles Lutz, an employee at the restaurant, said the female driver told him she thought she had hit the brake pedal.

Shaler’s building inspector told police there was no structural damage to the plaza, which also houses a state liquor store, a Dollar Store, Rite-Aid, and other businesses.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
