A man is hospitalized at a Pittsburgh hospital after escaping an overnight house fire in Elliott and then collapsing outside from cardiac arrest.
The two-alarm fire was reported at 3:10 a.m. Thursday in the 900 block of Gibson Street, according to city public safety officials.
The fire began in first floor and spread to the second and third floors of the brick structure, officials said. Firefighters had the blaze under control within the hour.
A man and woman were evacuated from the house, but the man collapsed outside and went into cardiac arrest. Medics on the scene were able to “re-establish a pulse” en route to the hospital, where the man was admitted in critical condition.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Red Cross is helping the family with housing.
