Man killed when car hits utility pole on West Carson Street

A man was killed in a fiery crash overnight on West Carson Street in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood.

Pittsburgh police said the crash was reported around 1:30 a.m. Monday and occurred when the driver was traveling along West Carson toward the West End Circle when he hit a utility pole near the intersection and the vehicle burst into flames.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released. He was the lone passenger in the vehicle.

No other vehicles were involved.

West Carson was shut down for several hours from Station Square to the West End Circle. The road reopened around 5:35 a.m.
