WTAE leads local Mid-Atlantic Emmy list with 18 nominations

WTAE-TV is the local leader in the Mid-Atlantic Emmy race. Its 18 nominations were announced Tuesday night at WQED Multimedia in Pittsburgh. The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will celebrate its 34th awards ceremony Sept. 24 in Philadelphia.

KDKA-TV had 16 nominations, followed by 12 each for WPXI-TV and WQED Multimedia. Philadelphia's NBC10 led all with 29.

Jesse Irwin, creator and host of the University of Pittsburgh's "Pitt Tonight" show, was named in the "talent" category and the show itself earned the school its second nomination. Robert Morris University had three nominations, with "Hail to RMU" in the student long-form, non-fiction category, a broadcast of the Colonials' hockey game against Army West Point for live events, as well as Eddie Sheehy in the on-air talent group.
